Introducing: Plot Twists, pt 2
Previews of stories to come + vote on the story you want to read first!
Welcome back to Plot Twists! Last week, I offered part one of this intro; if you’re new, you can access that here. This week, we’re peeking behind the curtain to what’s ahead!
Newsletter Format
You know this: every week, I will release a new short story, usually readable in one sitting. Each newsletter will be pretty simple. I’ll briefly introduce the story, and then you can dive right into reading.
The entire story will be in the body of the newsletter, so you can read from your email or from that post on my Substack page - whichever format is best for you.
Very occasionally, I will break a story into two parts, sent over two weeks.
Your Feedback
I would love to know your thoughts on stories!! Feedback is always welcome, never required. I’m not trying to make this homework - we have enough going on.
Below each story, I’ll include a one-click poll where you can rate the story ⭐ - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. Easy as that!
If you feel so compelled, you can leave more in-depth feedback, ask questions or have general book club discussions in the comments. Will be fun!
Other Ways To Participate
Plot Twists has its own chat! Real talk: I’ve never used this feature before, I don’t know what will go down there yet. We can develop it together. Or decide we don’t need it. We’ll see!
A Sneak Peek of Stories Ahead
Currently, I have ~10 works that are ready for the newsletter. This includes:
💌 Three shorts loosely based on compelling songs, in which I use the song’s subject as a launching point for a more fictional interpretation. It’s not meant to reference the song’s actual origins in any way. The lyrics and tone of the melody serve as inspiration
💌 Sample chapters from my completed novels, As Though Rising Above and Interlude
💌 A non-fiction turn: resurrecting the emails I sent recapping my internship at the Cannes Film Festival in 2005
💌 A lone poem I wrote and love
💌 If I can find it, I want to share the very first “book” I wrote, probably in middle school, which is about a summer picnic. If I recall correctly, nothing happens, but it’s very descriptive. Could be hilarious/tragic
Some works in various stages of development:
🖊️ Screenplay for a short film that mashes up an action thriller with a musical
🖊️ A concept based on meeting men on planes, another with a country singer meet-cute
🖊️ More shorts based on songs – I love doing these and already have more in draft form
🖊️ Elements from my future long-format novels and a feature screenplay
Random: have you noticed no one knows how spell sneak peek? Let me know if you’ve already spied this or if now you see it everywhere.
Vote For Next Week’s Story!
Admittedly, I’m not giving you a lot to go off of! Here are links to the songs if you want to do some research:

Next week, your top pick debuts!! Thank you for being here. 🩵
